Ever since Time Internet update on their latest package with the highest package reach 1Gbps, they have successfully raise the bar to Gigabit competition in Malaysia internet market.

On 7 Oct 2018, Time Internet automatically upgraded existing customer with latest package, where:-
100Mbps @ RM149 to 500Mbps @ RM139 (some might get RM 129 or RM 119 offer price);
300Mbps @ RM189 to 1Gbps @ RM199;
500Mbps @ RM299 to 1Gbps @ RM199.

and they re-introduce 100Mbps at RM99 as new package. Sign up for TIME Fibre Home Broadband click HERE and enjoy RM100 off your bill! Up to 1Gbps. From RM99/month.

However, many users are not used to this sudden jump in the internet speed and easily confuse on how to get the offered speed, be it 500Mbps or 1Gbps.

For most of the electronic devices (laptops, mobiles) are not all can receive Gigabit connection as well. Most of the laptop network adapter is still having a cap of Ethernet connection at 100Mbps. And most of the Wifi Router are not able to giving 500Mbps of connection as well.

There are few thing to take note when want to get the right Wifi Router that able to let you connect Gigabit network connection via both Ethernet or WLan.

First. Check your Ethernet and Wifi Network adapter whether they are capable in receiving more than 100Mbps of speed.

Second. Make sure you are enable Gigabit connection in the setting.

Most of the setting for network adapter and router are set to Auto, be sure to set to correct setting for 1000Mbps Full Duplex connection.

Third. Make sure your wifi router is capable to reach that speed you subscribed.

Previously, time internet provide D-Link DIR-850L Dual-Band wifi router for 100Mbps users. At the point of time, it’s more than sufficient, however when existing users being upgraded their package to 500Mbps, this equipment will no longer able to supply the desire max Wifi speed, only Lan cable can achieve.

So it’s is important to make sure that your equipment is able to bring you the desire speed.

Understanding Wifi standards

There are different Wifi standards associated into each and every gadget. Consumers really would need to know the difference of them to avoid any misunderstanding. Up until year 2016 most laptop/mobile phone are 802.11b/g/n capable, from 2017 onward, 802.11n/ac become the norm but not much people knowing it. This is when the word dual band has become more popular. Below is the differences among the standards.

802.11a: 5Ghz – up to 54Mbps – range 75 feet
802.11b: 2.4Ghz – up to 11Mbps – range 150 feet
802.11g: 2.4Ghz – up to 54Mbps – range 150 feet
802.11n: 2.4Ghz/5Ghz – up to 600Mbps – range 175 feet
802.11ac: 2.4Ghz/5Ghz – up to 1300Mbps – range 175 feet

After knowing some tech thing, it is time to source for the correct Wifi Router to suit your need. Here are the simplest guideline you may refer to get the minimum requirement.
