I’ve join new company which is Ygl Convergence Bhd (an IT solution provider company) since 21 June 2010.
Today I follow my Manager (Humphrey) and Senior (Poay Keat) to have a public service visit and interview to a drug rehabilitation center, located in Gelugor Penang. I’m glad that the company is such active in helping the community, especially in Hong Kong. Ygl in Hong Kong is currently active in Social Community Service and can view at here http://www.hksem.net.
Regarding this rehabilitation center, it is built since 1981, and now have 29 years history. The owner, Mr. Gideon Khoo run this center by his own hand.
For over 29 years, Mr. Gideon Khoo have help changed the life of lots of people.
Humphrey and Poay Keat were first reach there to have a look around, and I was reach after get the two little naughty to nursery.
Mr. Gideon Khoo was not available that time as not yet reach the center. Let’s have a look around at the center =)

After snapping around the photos, we go into Mr. Gideon Khoo’s office space to start the interview session. Once step into there, you can see, there are lots of recognition certification and awards owned by Mr. Gideon Khoo.
We then start to interview with him.

Mr. Gideon Khoo (he speak very well english) was once a heavy drug addict, and he have caught in Prison 5 times where the last one is at 1979. Even though he get caught so many times, after the last time release from prison, he is still fall into the deadly world of drugs.
What make him wanted to battle off this addiction is the callers from his heart. He have get touch deeply from this sentence “HE can make you the man that you should be..”. And now it is the motto and inspiration to run this Rehab center.
This Rehab center have run without any fund support from outsider or the family from Mr. Gideon Khoo. How he get this center well for up to 29 years is interesting. All the while he have a strong will to keep this center alive and work hard to get fund else where. Some of the fund is from fee he get when giving speech, doing PR, and most are from a construction. He and the Rehab people are working from time to time to help renovation work for people. They are just like normal people after all =)
He now always laugh at himself that, people around always says he is stupid to run such Rehab center. But for us, we feel that he is a Great man! Who else can doing such thing with limited resources and strong will to hold for so long?? That is a great commitment of life ones is having.
Mr. Gideon Khoo was in a rush as he need to leave first, and the Rehab people need to go out to work as well =) The interview then appear to have a short but fruitful one.

After all, what we can learn from here, is that, to change.. the most important is start from our very own-self. No one can make you change, our will is essential. And the surrounding is the second option to make the consideration. We are always the one to say Yes and No. Decision is from us.
So.. Be responsible for your own. Be good for yourself, and help others who needed if you afforded to =)
